Our story

EARLY 2021

The challenge for a new era of events by Māori, for Māori and with Māori was issued.

Our chair, Kara, put out a LinkedIn post seeing who would be interested.

SEPTEMBER 2021

Te Rau Hihiri is established as a charitable trust with five founding members.

NOVEMBER 2021

A wānanga is held with a mix of Māori working in and with the public service to contribute to the design of our first event.

MARCH 2022

Our inaugural event, Poipoia te Manawa Māui is delivered online.

It aims to catalyse the eco-system of Māori public servants and professionals to connect, celebrate, learn and create change.

SEPTEMBER 2022

Kai Whai Hua is launched. It’s a series of events to connect Māori working in and within the public service over kai and kōrero.

We focus on the ‘how’, not just the ‘why’.

APRIL 2023

Our network and events continue with a focus on creating a public sector that upholds the mana of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and makes better decisions for Aotearoa.
